It's December, so that means...

Post by orudge »

... it's time for the Christmas theme!

If you find the forums look weird, you may need to do a hard refresh - CTRL-F5 should do this in most browsers. If you really can't stand the Christmas theme, you can change your theme in your profile until the new year.

Enjoy! ;)

Oops, forgot the Christmas smilies - that should now be rectified! ;)

Click the User Control Panel, Board Preferences, and change the "My Board Style" option. You can then change to subSilver or proSilver. Note that you can't change to the normal TT theme, only the winter theme is available at the moment.

I would perhaps suggest you all try the winter theme for a little while, you do get used to it (and then the normal theme looks odd when it returns in January!).

I find this paler blue Christmas theme rather more restful than the SHOUTY GREEN theme that was here last time I visited. If the themes were more configurable I think I'd most like to adapt the OpenTDD 'dry' scheme. That faded, er, 'sepia-ish colour' (IYSWIM) is rather nice. Are new forum themes reasonably easy to set up?

Those were never snowified, for some reason. Possibly the buttons were different on phpBB 2.x, I can't honestly remember!

I remember the beginning of Christmas Theme  we wanted it so badly with TTD arctic theme, and it's still alive,

next month will be my 8th year on TT Forums, that's more than 1/4 of my whole life (sic!)

@orudge, I also found bit unreadable text, if possible to fix it ...

Ah, they're on the View [unread/new/your] Posts pages, I believe? I'll see if I can sort that later on, then.

I think this has been reported in the previous years too, but links are quite hard to read when they're inside a quote, like so:

Yes, that is alas a problem. I don't believe we've managed to come up with a decent technical solution to that, unless anybody knows of any CSS that'll adjust the link colours while inside a particular <div> but without actually adjusting the <a> tags themselves.

I pointed this problem out last year as well, but I think the answer was somewhere along the lines of "it's a problem with the way your computer screen displays colours" rather than taking it seriously. Since there are quite a few of us here accessing on MacBooks, then it would be appreciated if there was far more of a distinction between dark green and black on the forum - I can never tell what page I'm on.

That works! I must have missed that last year, sorry!

As for your issue, Jamie, it is a little difficult to distinguish between the black and the green there, I agree. I'm not quite sure what I can easily do that's visually appealing, though, just there. If in doubt, you can always use the Next and Previous buttons to navigate, instead of clicking on '4' or '6', perhaps. And you can tell which page you're on from the "Page 120 of 122" bit next to the "Post Reply" button at both the top and the bottom, so it's really not too bad, I'd say. Plus, even if you are just using the 1 2 3 4 5 links, the one that doesn't give you a hand icon when you hover over (or that doesn't change colour) is obviously the one you're on. :)
